The lads fought out a 2-2 draw with a pretty usefull looking Thrapston Town side.
With watching parts of the game, we played some great passing football and had a lot of possession.
Wayne Richardson scored both goals for the team, 1 being from the penalty spot and one from a well taken goal.
I thought we gifted Thrapston their 2 goals, others might disagree but from what i saw they probably came from our mistakes.
All the lads done extremely well, i was personally very pleased with Dan Webster, i thought he worked very hard, he will admit himself he should have scored late on, but overall delighted with his performance.
Would like to say well done to the lads in the first team for stopping behind and watching the reserves, they all cheered the lads on so well done to you all.
Team spirit is very good indeed.
Your a fantastic group of lads who are great to work with.

An extremely useful work-out for the squad and in the end a fair result.
Two or three things that stand out in my mind from the game was that Thrapston, although being the junior side in league terms, appeared to be the more experienced side and at times displayed that. With six or seven ex-Premier division players in their ranks they are going to be a hard side to beat in their division.
They, like us are an ambitious side and will want to display their talents in the Premier Division in the very near future. With an astute manager and sound backroom staff they have a head start on the majority of division one teams.
We had a young squad performing yesterday and it was pleasing to see how many former U.18's are pushing hard for a regular first team slot. As the season progresses there will be more, I'm sure.
Just one disappointing feature of the double-header yesterday was the fact that, despite spending £50 on refreshments for our visitors, after the game they chose not to enjoy our hospitality in the bar resulting in us having to throw two large trays of sandwiches away.
However, it was pleasing to see their Chairman mixing with our officials in the club almost to the end. Cheers Mark (and Mark Harrison)
Laurie.

Laurie. Worrying that something like that happened on two levels 1.the non enjoyment of the hospitality 2.the fact that they were thrown away Question were the supporters in the clubhouse offered any its a well known fact having food warrants thirst leading to revenue at bar. Were the voulunteers offered any.Nothing in this day and age should warrant being thrown away until it really is good for nothing else. Just a view Bye for now Me

I think we have to be more positive with regards the teams performances at the moment. Most of you would have expected us to be Thrapston yesterday ( me included) but in fairness to Thrapston, they had a pretty good side out yesteday.
i repeat what i said in an earlier post that i think we gifted Thrapston town their goals, and we have to make sure we don,t keep gifting soft goals to our oponents.
I am though very confident that we will be in a good position when we start our league campaign at home against Yaxley. We haven,t had every body back yet from injuries, holidays etc, but when we do and we have everybody to chose from then you will see us play very well.
We played very well against Bedford Town, and at times done very well yesterday, apart from the soft goals we gave away we should have won the game. We certainly have the firepower to score goals and in time you will see this happen.
have faith in this great bunch of lads we have here at wellingborough, these lads are working so hard, and you will shortly see their talent shine thru.

As i have previously commented, pre season is all about Rob & Nick having a look at players & trying various permutations and although nobody enjoys any form of defeat it doesn't have a bearing on the outcome of the season ahead.
Next saturday is when the proper stuff starts boys & girls!!
Just an opinion from and ageing & decrepit(ish) taxi driver.

Martin,
I really think you ought to give more thought to what questions you pose on the forum. I refer in particular to the one where you make comment about the food being thrown away.
Do you honestly think we, on the Executive would dispose of all the remaining refreshments without considering firstly offering them to the supporters in the bar. Give us a bit of commom sense. Several supporters who remained in the bar after the game had their fill but there were still plenty left. Some supporters even took trays of food home with them but there was still plenty to be thrown away.
Whilst I'm in a constructive mode I would also suggest that you could have answered the query allegedly posed by a supporter concerning the performance of the team against Thrapston. Did it not occur to you to explain what pre-season friendlies are all about. Whilst the results are important they are not the be and end all of why we arrange them. I thought it was not a positive move on your part to air someone's else's views on an open forum where the manager and players have access. How do you think they felt? Over the moon, I'll bet.
I would be very interested in the identity of the person who asked you to publicise their views as I would be prepared to go into more detail and possibly explore how they see a new team gelling together. If someone had asked me to air their views I would have advised them to consult with either of the management team, not plaster it all over the forum.
What's your agenda?
Laurie.

I was asked by a supporter to put the following opinion of the game onto this forum Let me address the "Agenda" the person whom at the time didn't have internet/access to the forum asked me to place "THEIR" message emphasis on THEIR message onto the forum but asked to respect their annonymity to protect them from subjective replies.Would a team who played well below par(Newcastle to name 1) reimburse their loyal fans who paid money to watch at least an 80% performance in my eyes that goes over to friendlies as well where an admission fee is charged. Season is 4 days away, season tickets have been purchased and at the moment no semblance of who the players are or not.Yes the loyal supporters have an idea but the club is looking to encourage new blood, new supporters. To answer the second phase of the agenda.I think was mentioned in previous posts by a no of members that if hospitality is offered (commendable by the club in question) then should not be lauded nor criticised if visiting team/officials don't take up said hospitality.Yet again was highlighted that a "team" didn't take up the hospitality offered. Let me then bounce the question back what is the agenda behind highlighting on more than 1 occasion that teams have not taken up hospitality?.A thank-you from at least 1 person serves as an appreciation of others' efforts. Those teams now if neutrals/other clubs read this have a stigma attached to them ie don't bother with food for them they don't eat it. Finally as to why put "this" on an open forum and not privately discus it I will say no more for want of using a known cliche.

Here Balugi you are right and on top of that LP couldn't even mention the fact that the Thrapston manager was ex prem manager. Whats the matter is it too embarressing for WT to mention his name or summut anymore? Colin Ridgway, remember him got you promoted and won you the last silverware and got the sack
