Before people start make criticisms about the possibility of the Dog & Duck football pitch being at risk of flooding because it is in a flood plain they should know a few facts.
When the new groundsman inspected the pitch after the recent heavy rain there was only about 5 metres of rain on the actual playing surface. In the low area near the pump near the corner flag, which is always prone to gather water after heavy rain. Paul Knowles then advised that as the river rose so would the water table that effects the Dog & Duck pitch. He was spot on with his predictions as within less that 6 hours the whole training ground was under water and so was half of the playing pitch, almost up to the subs benches. The rest of the pitch was playable. The pump system that drains the pitch could not operate because there was no where for the water to go, the adjacent ditch being flooded.
Apparently it was due to the authorities releasing the pressure of flooding in the Northampton area and we suffered as a result. Lets hope it doesn't release a covering of silt on the pitch after the water subsides otherwise there will yet another expense for the two clubs.
There could even be a doubt that Saturday's game against Spalding could be in jeopardy.
